Gilbert HuchinTo have success in college can be challenging for some students.  I learned having a set of plans in place can ensure success through college.  Three important things to plan for are making your class schedule, setting goals, and finding a good support group. When you apply these to your school life, you will notice that each one has a very beneficial role.

When you take the time to focus on your class schedule and plan them correctly, you will find that spacing classes is very important.  When you give yourself time between your classes, you give yourself a break and have time to relax for a moment before entering your next class.  It also gives you time to walk to your next class in case it is across campus.  Having classes too close can be very stressful, and entering a classroom stressed out can be damaging to your ability to focus and learn.

Setting goals is good because they keep you focused.  Goals build up your self confidence, allowing you to set bigger goals for yourself each time they are accomplished.  Goals will help keep you on track with your degree plan.  Long-term goals make the transition to college less stressful by giving you a plan to follow throughout the semester.

Having a support group is the most important element of a college success.  When having this in place, it’s very hard to fail.  The people you choose to be in your support group will be with you every step of the way.  They will encourage you to never give up your studies.  It is very important to choose people who truly believe in you and you can trust.  When you choose the wrong people, it can cause doubt and confusion in yourself.

College is fun, and when you can balance your life with your studies, you will see that in the end it all pays off.   Planning classes, setting goals, and a good support group will help ensure a successful college life, which will lead to a life of success.  Overall, it’s up to you to believe in yourself and never give up.
